Decision on continuation of the regional research programme
Region Jönköpings län is positive about the regional research programme and has decided to allocate 5 MSEK for a third round of the programme, which is run in cooperation with Jönköping University. The decision was taken by the region’s board for labour market, business and attractiveness on 27 April.
The purpose of the programme is to establish a demand-controlled research in cooperation between the university and the business sector of the region. In each research project at least one SME (small and medium-sized enterprises) takes part. The projects are co-funded by the region, the university and the participating companies.
“There is no doubt that Jönköping University and the businesses of the region may develop their collaboration and together address issues that are relevant from both a research and a growth perspective. The regional research programme offers such an opportunity”, says Lars Niklasson, Vice President at Jönköping University.
The regional research programme was launched in 2014. Since then five different research projects have been started. Two examples are Reshoring, which aims at developing a decision support for companies considering moving their production back home from low-cost countries, and PEOPLE, which aims at preventing tissue injuries by improved design of prostheses and other support products.
