Inger Janssons forskningsintresse är inriktat mot arbetslivet och hur tillgängligheten till arbetsmarknaden kan möjliggöras för personer med hälsoproblem, sociala problem och funktionshinder. Arbetsförmåga är ett dynamiskt begrepp med olika betydelser. Begreppet behöver därför belysas från både ett individ-, arbetsgivar- och rehabiliterings- såväl som ett försäkringsmedicinskt perspektiv för att förstå dess innebörd och vilka konsekvenser en nedsättning av arbetsförmågan kan innebära ur de olika perspektiven. De olika perspektiven på arbetsförmåga behöver beaktas för att förbättra inte bara individens arbetsutförande utan även för att förbättra rehabiliteringsåtgärder, anpassningar på arbetsplatsen, förutsättningar i arbetslivet och omständigheter i vardagslivet. Vidare har Inger Jansson problematiserat lönearbete som försörjning och lyft medborgarlön som ett sätt att minska utsatthet för marginaliserade grupper och bidra till ett mera hållbart arbetsliv.

För närvarande är Inger Janssons forskning inriktad mot komplementära metoder för att minska psykisk ohälsa och möjliggöra arbetsåtergång. De komplementära metoderna som beforskas är kulturunderstödd rehabilitering i grupp och existentiella samtalsgrupper.

Inger Jansson är specialist inom arbetsterapi med inriktning mot området arbete och utbildning.
