Research focus
Andrea Schneider’s research lies at the intersection of public economics and digital transformation. Her work explores the implications of digitalisation on tax systems, public sector functioning, and the sharing economy. She has published on topics such as tax compliance, short-term rental regulation, profit shifting, and the design of public sector incentives. A recurring theme in her research is how institutions can adapt to and govern emerging digital platforms and cross-border economic activities in an equitable and effective manner.

Academic background
Andrea earned her PhD in Economics from Helmut Schmidt University Hamburg in 2010. She previously held an assistant professorship at the University of Münster, where she taught and conducted research in public economics. She has also served as a visiting lecturer at the University of Oslo. Her academic work is complemented by research projects with policy relevance. At JIBS, she teaches PhD, Master’s, and Bachelor-level courses in microeconomics.
MMTC affiliation
Andrea has been part of MMTC since she joined JIBS in 2019. As a member of the center, she contributes to interdisciplinary conversations on digitalisation, transformation, and governance. Her work reflects MMTC’s mission to foster research that addresses complex societal challenges through collaborative, engaged scholarship. She is also actively involved in the academic development of early-career researchers through her role as Director of PhD Candidates at JIBS.
